About The Event

U.S. Coast Guard and Astoria Yacht Club will host a presentation for recreational boaters on Saturday, March 29 from 1 to 4 pm. at the Columbia Maritime Museum’s Barbey Maritime Center, 2042 Marine Drive in Astoria, on preparing for a boating emergency on the lower Columbia River and nearshore areas. Being prepared for a medical or other emergency on the water can greatly improve the chances for a successful outcome.


Astoria Yacht Club will present on preparation and training resources for recreational boaters, drawing on the experience of retired Emergency Department doctor Roy Little, resources available from US Sailing, and the training regimen of world sail racer Heidi Brown.


Representatives of Astoria Air Base, Cape Disappointment Lifeboat Station and Sector Columbia River communications center will together present a program designed to familiarize recreational boaters with the procedures and capabilities of the Coast Guard regarding rescues of boats and personnel in…
